"Chickenhawk" Musings

"Chickenhawk" Musings

This article decries the fact that many of the people making decisions in the WOI had not seen miltary service. By this reasoning, only people who had actually had fatal diseases should make decisions concerning treatment thereof, only those who had been in the oil business should make oil policy decisions, only people who had been in outer space should make decisions concerning its exploration, etc. etc. etc.

We need people with experience to help make decisions in myraid subjects. Thus, in the WOI, we had Generals etc. to help and give vital input. But to insist that only combat veterans could possibly make those decisions is foolhardy. What if we don't have a war for about 60-70 years and don't have any full-fledged veterans around? Would we then have to just give up because only veterans can possibly make these sorts of decisions? Yes, I know it is a ludicrous argument. . . . so is the one found in this article.

The Brain of the Chickenhawk by Bob Wallace

These men are deserving of nothing but contempt. They're cowards, all of them. They think they are so intellectually and morally superior to everyone else that it gives them the right to reduce other people to the status of things. That's why they can so casually send others to die, while they won't fight. They think they're indispensable, but believe those they urge to die are expendable.
