Amnesty International Gets it Backwards, Again

War on terror" makes world more dangerous

I am going to look at this article at length. Quotes from the article start with a bullet, my comments do not.

  • Washington's "war on terror" has made the world more dangerous by curbing human rights, undermining international law and shielding governments from scrutiny, Amnesty International said on Wednesday.

Yep, things are much worse now than when Saddam & Co. were murdering Iraqi citizens, sending money to homicide bombers' families, providing training areas and supplies to Al Qaeda, etc. etc. etc.

  • Releasing its annual report into global human rights abuses in 2002, the London-based watchdog also urged the world to do more to sort out Iraq's problems now the Gulf War is over.
Damnit! Six weeks is way too long not to have everything fixed yet! Get a move on America! You are just slacking off not already having completely rebuilt, having electricity and water up and running, security perfect, a new democracy in full running order, all the Baathist leaders captured, etc. etc. etc.!!! You (U.S.) obviously don't want to help these people. It must be because they are not white, racists!

  • In one of its most critical sideswipes yet at the policies pursued by the government in Washington, Amnesty said the bid to stamp out terror in the wake of the attacks of September 11, 2001, had largely backfired.
You see, there have been homicide bomber attacks since the liberation of Afghanistan and Iraq. Therefore, the attempts had backfired. In fact, there would not have been ANY attacks if we had just left those peace loving Taliban and Baathist gov'ts alone. How stupid could we be? It is so obvious that these attacks, or ones similar to them, would never had occurred if we had just left the Middle East region alone.

  • "It has deepened divisions among people of different faiths and origins, sowing the seeds for more conflict," it said in a statement. "The overwhelming impact of all this is genuine fear across all sectors of society."
Not a note about the support seen by regular Iraqi and Afghan citizens in defiance of the old regimes. Not a word about the pro-democracy anti-mad-mullah demonstrations in Iran. Or the recent statements in Saudi Arabia saying that they, who are both muslim and arab, need to fight these terrorists tooth and nail.

  • "While claiming to bring justice to victims in Iraq, the United States has actively sought to undermine the International Criminal Court, the mechanism for universal justice," it said.
The ICC huh? Learn more about the ICC here.
