RIAA Has Stupidest Idea Ever

RIAA Has Stupidest Idea Ever

I'll be surprised if the RIAA receives even 100 "amnesty applications" out of the millions of online file sharers. Then again, this is probably just a public relations move so that they can step up prosecutions later on and claim, "But we gave them a chance to get amnesty" . . . .

Music Biz to Give File Sharers Amnesty

According to sources, the RIAA will not pursue legal action if infringers delete all unauthorized music files from their computers, destroy all copies (including CD-Rs) and promise not to upload such material in the future. Each infringing household member will have to send a completed, notarized amnesty form to the RIAA, with a copy of a photo ID. Those who renege on their promise will be subject to charges of willful copyright infringement.

Fat? It Isn't McDonald's Fault

Judge Throws Out Obesity Suit Against McDonalds

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A federal judge on Thursday threw out a revised lawsuit against McDonald's Corp . that accused the fast food restaurant of using misleading advertising to lure children into eating unhealthy foods that make them fat.
U.S. District Judge Robert Sweet had previously dismissed the plaintiffs' original case but allowed them to submit a new filing with information backing up their advertising allegations.
In dismissing the current suit, Sweet said that the plaintiffs had not followed his detailed instructions and he barred them from filing another version, quelling litigation fears the suit had sparked in the food industry, .

And This Proves Conservative Media Bias

And This Proves Conservative Media Bias

Yep. All the other channels' slants have no bearing on anything because FoxNews is the most popular. Liberal viewpoints just can't be heard.

Fox News gains, other news networks fall

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Fox News Channel was the only cable news service in August to grow in viewership from a year ago, gaining 20% in primetime and 29% across the entire day, according to Nielsen Media Research.

By comparison, CNN fell by 9% in primetime and total day, while MSNBC lost 21% in primetime and 11% for the day. Headline News and CNBC also suffered losses greater than 20% compared with August 2002. It marked the 28th consecutive month that Fox led the news channel pack.

DRUDGE REPORT FLASH 2002®

Oh Thank God! Britney for Bush!

To tell the truth, I wouldn't have expacted it, but I am pleasantly surprised.

DRUDGE REPORT - BRITNEY COMES OUT SWINGING FOR BUSH

Britney Spears came out swinging for President Bush on Wednesday during an interview with CNN's Tucker Carlson.

CARLSON: A lot of entertainers have come out against the war in Iraq. Have you?

SPEARS: Honestly, I think we should just trust our president in every decision that he makes and we should just support that, you know, and be faithful in what happens.

CARLSON: Do you trust this president?

SPEARS: Yes, I do.

Dems and Judicial Nominees

Dems and Judicial Nominees

The Seattle Times: Opinion: Senators may pay dearly for blocking Bush's judges

Never in our history has a filibuster been used to block a judicial appointment, until now. But that is all old news. Senate Democrats have been using these tactics and ignoring these complaints for two years. . . .

The president's appointees have stellar qualifications and bipartisan support, and Democratic senators are alienating mainstream Americans, particularly minorities and religious groups they have counted on in the past. If senators, including our own, do not recognize this, they will feel the results on election night, and that will be some news indeed.

Carter On North Korea

Carter On North Korea

Yet another Peace-At-All-Costs commentary by Jimmy Carter. Not the most rational editorial I have read today, but worth reading if only for knowing the other side.

USATODAY.com - U.S.-North Korea war seems 'strong possibility'

There must be verifiable assurances that prevent North Korea from becoming a threatening nuclear power, with a firm commitment that the U.S. will not attack a peaceful North Korea. This is a time for sustained and flexible diplomacy between our two governments, to give peace and economic progress a chance within a nuclear-free Korean peninsula.

One Question: If we honestly swear not to attack them, what incentive do they have to go through with their false promises? They have promised not to create nuclear weapons before, to Carter no less, and look where that got us. I also like the implicit assumption in the phrase "peaceful North Korea".

UN and Iraq

UN and Iraq

New York Post: WHO LOVES THE UN?

Before the U.N. can be allowed to have any say in the future of Iraq it has to show some genuine commitment to Iraqi democracy. As for the even more extreme notion that the U.N. take over from the coalition: Surely the Iraqi people have suffered enough.

UN Rejected US Help at Baghdad HQ

UN Rejected US Help at Baghdad HQ

BEHIND THE BOMBING

In the wake of last week's bombing of the U.N. headquarters in Baghdad, we heard, yet again, that the sky was falling, that our involvement in Iraq is damned and doomed. One online 'intelligence' service even predicted a vast Arab uprising, from Morocco to the Iranian border, that would bury our soldiers beneath the desert sands.

The Advent of Christian Feminism

For example, what does equality mean? Does it refer to 'equality under just law' -- under laws that protect person and property? Is it 'socio-economic equality' that requires legal privileges for the disadvantaged and government control of the marketplace? Perhaps it is the cultural equality in which attitudes and social expression need to be controlled and 'politically corrected?'
Disagreement on complex political terms and social issues is not only inevitable, it is healthy because it fuels open, honest discussion.

Communism: Argument Against

Communism: Argument Against

FOXNews.com

In other words, we’re willing to cut communism slack because we’ve been led to believe that the philosophy was driven by such noble goals as equality and egalitarianism. That’s not the truth, of course. As Caplan documents on his site, from Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin onward, communism has always been driven by power. Slave labor and the “liquidation” of dissidents were always part of the plan.

Fund on Dean and Dems Candidacy

Fund on Dean and Dems Candidacy

OpinionJournal - John Fund's Political Diary

Anti-Bush partisans may be having their joy ride with Howard Dean, but it's clear they are secretly pining for Hillary. Once they are absolutely convinced she won't answer their calls, I have no doubt many of them will grow tired and skeptical of Mr. Dean. That doesn't mean he can't win the nomination, just that the obstacles blocking his way--including the hostility of Team Clinton--will likely remain.
